Speaker B:I got the name because originally.
Speaker B:Well, my nickname is Philly.
Speaker B:And originally I had put that as my artist name, just Philly.
Speaker B:And then I was like, it's too many other artists out there named Philly.
Speaker B:So at this point, like, I got to make it a little different.
Speaker B:And so I feel like people always try to.
Speaker B:As a singer, you're always going to compare to who you sound like and who, you know, what your vocal ability is.
Speaker B:And for me, it's like, I wanted it to be sing like Philly because I just sing like me.
Speaker B:Like I'm not here to sound like an industry standard of any singer that you've heard before.
Speaker B:I make music, you know, that I love and I just hope everybody else loves it too.

Speaker A:And where did the nickname Philly come from?
Speaker A:Cause you're from San Francisco.
Speaker B:Yeah, I'm from the bay for sure.
Speaker B:So Philly came from my uncle, he used to call me Philly Cheesesteak.
Speaker B:And so I just shortened it.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Because my real name starts at the pH.

Speaker A:And I always buzz people out, but I'm not gonna keep it.

Speaker B:Cuz our last conversation was how he's been seeing me moving and to just keep it up and you know, all of that because he was kind of in the music industry as well.

Speaker B:So growing up, my, my actual childhood, I grew up with two older brothers.
Speaker B:They have a different dad.
Speaker B:We were at home a lot, mostly by ourselves.
Speaker B:My oldest brother is a lot older than us.
Speaker B:So like, he used to watch us and we just like played outside.
Speaker B:We used to play football.
Speaker B:So I'm a big tomboy.
Speaker B:Like, people be like, are you a girly girl or are you a tomboy?
Speaker B:I'm like, I'm both.
Speaker B:For real.
Speaker B:Like, just depends on the mood, where I'm going.
Speaker B:I dress to the occasion so I can do it all, you know, I've seen that.
Speaker A:When we met at Fab thing, she had her tomboy.

Speaker B:There was this guy there that had tried to talk to me one time, and, like, he said hi to me when I walked in.
Speaker B:I said hi, and then went inside, minding my business.
Speaker B:Some dude came in the party, and so he comes up to me.
Speaker B:He's like, oh, I think you're fine.
Speaker B:And, you know, trying to talk to me, and I'm like, oh, I don't.
Speaker B:You know, I'm good.
Speaker B:And then, like.
Speaker B:So I told my friend, like, act like you're my boyfriend, because I don't want to talk to him.
Speaker B:He keeps trying to talk to me.
Speaker B:And then.
Speaker B:So we're just sitting around, and so we're laughing and stuff.
Speaker B:And then we go outside, and he, like, runs up on me.
Speaker B:He's like, oh, so you think, like, you think she's funny?
Speaker B:Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, like, going off of me.
Speaker B:He's drunk, and then he ends up pulling a gun on me and, like, had me at gunpoint, literally.
Speaker B:And everybody outside was watching, and nobody helped me.
Speaker B:The dude who was like, that I knew a little bit came over and instigated it and was trying to, like, get the other dude to be like, hey, like, yeah, she called.
Speaker B:You did it.
Speaker B:Or she was over there laughing at you.
Speaker B:And I'm like, nobody was even laughing at him or talking to him, like.
Speaker B:And you weren't even in there.
Speaker B:So how do you even know?
Speaker B:It was a crazy situation.

Speaker B:With Universal, Def Jam?

Speaker B:So that's what we're going to be doing in March.

Speaker A:Are you ready for that lifestyle in that industry?
Speaker B:So with me, I'm not.
Speaker B:I. I'm gonna be honest.
Speaker B:Like, a lot of times I'm not ready for anything.
Speaker B:And I think this is like, something a lot of people need to hear.
Speaker B:As an artist and just in life in general, a lot of times I'm not ready for anything that's been going on.
Speaker B:Stuff has just been like.
Speaker B:Like God's been blessing me, like, over and over randomly, like, with all these great opportunities.
Speaker B:And I'm very good at adapting, and I think that's what works really well for me.
Speaker B:A lot of times I'm not ready.
Speaker B:I have bad anxiety, you know, with certain things, and I'm like, I don't know if I could do this.
Speaker B:I just go and I just do it.
Speaker B:Like, at that point in time, like, I'm an athlete.
Speaker B:You're gonna go out there and you're gonna just go out and do it and you gonna perform.
Speaker B:Like, it's the same difference.
Speaker B:You're gonna go out there, you're gonna play and put on your best perform, like, whatever performance.
Speaker B:So that's kind of like how I just look at everything.
Speaker B:Like, don't think too far into it.
Speaker B:Wait for it to come.
Speaker B:Adapt when it's there.
Speaker B:That's how I feel.
Speaker A:Once you just said all that, I damn near got anxiety.
Speaker A:Cause in my mind I'm like, you know, like, what's your biggest crowd you've ever performed for?
Speaker A:And what's that feeling on your way out?
Speaker A:Do you, like, wanna piss your pants?

Speaker A:Cause I'm literally like, my heart's pounding.
Speaker A:Because I'm feeling like I'm in your soul right now.
Speaker A:As a singer.

Speaker A:On my way to perform in front of thousands of people.
Speaker B:I haven't even done the thousands of people yet, but I Feel like the more people.
Speaker B:It's easier.
Speaker B:With more people, it's a lot easier because you can look and scan the room or scan, like the venue, whatever.
Speaker B:Outside, if it's a festival, you can scan so fast, you're not even really realizing, like, the people's expressions too much.
Speaker B:Now it's a smaller room.
Speaker B:You're literally watching the same people the whole time.
Speaker B:And that's more like that.
Speaker A:Like, scary.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:You're just like, oh, my God.

Speaker B:I do talk about my mental health a lot, but I don't talk about, like, why my mental health is the way it is.
Speaker B:So I think that's where family, you know, I'm, you know, I help take care of, like, my parents to a sense.
Speaker B:I mean, my mom, she.
Speaker B:She can do her own thing.
Speaker B:My dad, you know, he's in, like, a.
Speaker B:A rehab facility right now.
Speaker B:So I'm dealing with, like, trying to help take care of him, making sure he's good.
Speaker B:My kids, my grandma, she's a little bit older, so she'd be needing help.
Speaker B:Like, the other day, I just had it.
Speaker B:She fell.
Speaker B:You know, I'm the one there, has to pick her up, you know, and then when it comes to, like, financials, you know, trying to take care of two kids on your own Financially as well is a lot, you know, and there's only so much I can do.
Speaker B:And then trying to chase my dreams and you know, running into people who aren't very genuine to dealing with mental health, that's the biggest part for me right now is like the mental health part.
Speaker B:The anxiety and the panic attacks, it'll go away for like, it could go away for like a year, year and a half, two years and then it just comes back full fledged and it be times where I can't even walk out the house.
Speaker B:Like for months I'll just be stuck in the house because like I'll start having a panic attack like if I get up.
Speaker B:And like I'm a hypochondriac.
Speaker B:So I always think something is wrong with me physically for the ones who don't know what a hypochondriac is.
Speaker B:So I always think like, either I'm like having a heart attack or like, oh, like a stroke or this or that because the symptoms present itself.
Speaker B:So like realistically, like it is that and it's so hard to differentiate the two.
Speaker B:And even like the therapists say like, you know, you need to go to the hospital even if it's not that, but just so that you know it's not because you never know at the same time.
Speaker B:So it is really hard.
Speaker B:Like I was in the er, I'm not gonna lie.
Speaker B:Like this past weekend, like not this weekend but like last weekend, I had a really bad panic attack, but I didn't know it was a panic attack.
Speaker A:Like what does that feel like?
Speaker A:Like what did you feel like?
Speaker B:I was just extremely dizzy.
Speaker B:Like I like my whole body, like I couldn't even stand up straight.
Speaker B:Like I felt like I was like tipping over.
Speaker B:And then when I went to go sit down, I just got like an excruciating headache and my head was hurting so bad.
Speaker B:And then I started getting like pain in my chest, like, like sharp stabbing pains and then just kind of started elevating.
Speaker B:My legs go numb, my hands, my arms go numb, my face.
Speaker B:Like it's scary.
Speaker B:It is.
Speaker B:And then you like feel like you're gonna pass out and I'm like trying to rush myself at 4:30 in the morning to the hospital.
Speaker B:You know, it's scary.
Speaker B:And I like my kids see it, they've been going through it with me.
Speaker B:My daughter hates it.
Speaker B:You know, she doesn't hate it, she just very like, you know, she gets really sad because she doesn't like seeing me go through it.
Speaker B:So you know, it's Just hard.
Speaker B:And then trying to be a mom, the best mom I can be.
Speaker B:And yeah, I'm not there all the time.
Speaker B:Most of the time I am.
Speaker B:But you're right, my kids are with me.
Speaker B:Yeah, but I'm out working.
Speaker B:I'm not out partying, having fun with friends.
Speaker B:Like, usually when I'm out, it's for a reason.
Speaker B:There's always a reason behind why I have to be out.
Speaker B:If I'm networking in these spaces or, you know, just trying to push myself as an artist.
Speaker B:It's really hard, especially in the bay, trying to get seen and listen, trying to get my music heard.
Speaker B:Really not even be seen.
Speaker B:I just want people to listen to my music and be like, hey, like, you know, even if you have some critiques, like constructive criticism, let me know.

Speaker B:You should have seen me get on the airplane to New York and I'm about to go to sleep and he's all knocked out and I'm over here, like, scared.
Speaker B:And then I just took it Ativan and I was like, okay, I'm good.

Speaker A:Well, that's actually good that you actually mentioned that, because especially our culture, they're against medication for sure.
Speaker A:They're against therapy.
Speaker A:They're against a lot of the psychological things that I'll say advances, if you want to say to so called make it better.

Speaker A:I struggle with adhd.

Speaker A:Real bad.
Speaker A:Different level type.
Speaker A:Definitely got a mental problem, like, no, dead, dead ass.
Speaker A:I know for a fact I diagnosed myself when I diagnosed myself in college when I realized, you know, I get all excited and tell me if you can relate.
Speaker A:You get your books, you got your notepad.
Speaker A:You're so excited.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:I'm getting ready to fix my life.
Speaker A:I go sitting there.
Speaker A:Immediately the teachers start talking.
Speaker A:I'm thinking about where I'm going to be in the next four minutes.
Speaker A:I'm over here paying this bill.
Speaker A:This is all in my mind.
Speaker A:I ain't heard nothing this teacher said.
Speaker A:And I'm sitting in the front of the class.
Speaker A:So I struggle with adhd.
Speaker A:Like, a lot of my courses I couldn't take in class.
Speaker A:I only could do online.
Speaker A:So I can relate.
Speaker A:That is definitely a mental health issue.
Speaker B:It is.
Speaker A:It is because I can't control my.
Speaker A:Like, I can't turn my thoughts off, if that makes sense.
Speaker A:So I can relate to you.
Speaker A:When it comes to.
Speaker A:I haven't took any medication.
Speaker A:I'll be honest, I'm extremely nervous of the medication because I've heard that it makes you, like, stiff, bored, or too focused.
Speaker A:So I.
Speaker A:And then I heard it gives you heart problems, all these extra underlying issues, the side effects.
Speaker A:So, you know, I just actually take my hat off to you for even getting on here and discussing that.
Speaker A:You definitely finna run them number up, because people don't may.
Speaker A:You know, they may not know that about us.
Speaker A:You're pretty, you know, and you smile a lot.
Speaker A:You know what I mean?
Speaker A:We could never see if you're going through nothing, you know what I mean?
Speaker B:For sure.
Speaker A:So I take my hat off to you.
Speaker A:You've been a single mother, you know what I mean?
Speaker A:You came in here with energy, and I was late, y'.
